There is a new organ in St Croix, USVI! Congratulations to the members of St. Paul’s Episcopal-Anglican Church on their new Rodgers organ.  When we first met, their instrument was in terrible disrepair and had been unplayable for over 2 years!  No support from the dealer that sold the organ had left them in a terrible bind and we were honored to be chosen to set things right.
After much deliberation, Senior Warden Cheryl Ambrose and The Rt. Rev. Edward Ambrose Gumbs ordered a new Rodgers Infinity 361 3-manual digital organ with special audio equipment for trumpets & tubas, and for a thunderous pedal division.  We also installed high-tech protection for the unstable power service that is a common concern in the Caribbean.  The previous organ’s case and pipe facade in the rear balcony were preserved to house all of the new equipment.
About the organ:
The Infinity Series 361 organ features 3 keyboard manuals with 61 lighted stop controls and thumb pistons. Rodgers’ unique high-resolution stereophonic sampling process employs up to 8 microphones to record the authentic sound from legendary pipe organs across the country as well as around the world. The versatile and flexible audio system, allows the organ to be customized so that it meets the challenges presented by each unique room.  The Infinity 361 also features a multitude of features including 99 memory levels, built-in orchestral voices, velocity-sensitive keyboards and pedals, stereo outs to enhance streamed and recorded performances, built-in Bluetooth® technology for AirTurn™ hands-free page turning controlled by thumb or toe pistons for music displayed on mobile device, and much more!
All Infinity Series consoles are pipe-ready and easily pair with new or existing pipes. Musicians also enjoy enhanced control and flexibility with our Voice Palette™ system. This allows the organist to select digital and pipe voices individually for perfect ensemble balance.
After the new Rodgers organ was installed and voiced we held a class (and mini celebration) for the church’s many regular musicians and other St Croix substitutes.
We’re looking forward to returning after the COVID issues are behind us for a festive dedication concert.  We’ll be sure to add it to our event calendar in case any of our readers would like to get away to St Croix for a visit!
