Free and Open to the Public. Featuring “Rising Star” Organist Thomas Sheehan, Westminster Choir College Scholarship Winner.
Fort Myers, FL, April 29, 2011 – Solo Organ Concert at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers. Since 1990 Covenant Presbyterian Church has awarded a performance scholarship every year to a deserving music student at Westminster Choir College as part of the Covenant Concert Series. This year’s Scholarship Winner, Organist Thomas Sheehan, will perform works by Max Reger, Roger-Ducasse and a brilliant transcription of the Tannhauser Overture by Wagner. Mr. Sheehan is a student of Ken Cowan and currently serves as Assistant Organist and Choirmaster at St. Mark’s Church, Philadelphia. Mr. Sheehan was a featured “Rising Star” performer at the National Convention of the American Guild of Organists in Washington, D.C. in 2010. He is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Organ Performance at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey.

Ken Cowan is one of North America’s finest concert organists. Praised for his dazzling artistry, impeccable technique and imaginative programming by audiences and critics alike, he maintains a rigorous performing schedule which takes him to major concert venues across America, Canada and Europe.
A native of Thorold, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Cowan received a Master’s degree and an Artist Diploma from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, studying organ with Thomas Murray. Prior to attending Yale, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied with John Weaver.
Mr. Cowan is Assistant Professor of Organ at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey where he was recently awarded the 2008 Rider University Distinguished Teaching Award. Previous positions have included Associate Organist and Artist in Residence at Saint Bartholomew’s Church, New York City, Assistant Organist posts at St. James Episcopal Church, the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in New York City, and Saint Clement’s Church in Philadelphia. He has also been on the roster of Associate Organists for the famous Wanamaker Grand Court organ in Philadelphia.
